Capital Quilts & Trader Joes

I spent the weekend visiting my mom and her friend Cheryl. We went to Capital Quilts to see what we could see. I picked up some gifts and fabric for the backing of that wedding quilt. Then we went to Trader Joe's - Oh my! That would be a nice addition to the Cville scene! Mom also brought me my new featherweight sewing machine- unfortunately the guy who tuned it up forgot to give me my peddle & cord. He's supposed to send it in the mail.

That's the quilt mom made for Cheryl for Christmas!

Deja Vu?

Eating somewhere else for Thanksgiving means no leftovers. Our solution was to make another Thanksgiving dinner! We made another full batch of pumpkin muffins for Will - he didn't eat the first one! We had rotisserie chicken from Giant, and mashed potatoes, stuffing, & cranberry sauce. We even had pumpkin pie!

After dinner, David wrapped Morgan's broken toe.

Thanksgiving Pies

Carolyn makes the best pies! We celebrated Thanksgiving at Bill & Carolyn's again this year, along with her parents & David's parents. The food was yummy and the company great! By the time we were served pie, I was so full from the delicious meal, I couldn't eat another bite. Reports were unanimous that it was outstanding!

Holiday Parade

Last year we got all excited about watching the holiday parade on the downtrown mall. It turned out to be a bust. Sure there was Santa in a sleigh, and a fife & drum corps, but that was it except for some people in period costumes giving speeches. This year, they added local school groups - Caroline's choir & Mattie's band were two of the additions, and other marchers.

The groups performed at the grandstand, and then paraded on. At the end, they performed again at the pavillion. All of the groups performed and then the costumed people spoke again. At the end of hte event, The Bearettes led the audience in America the Beautiful.

Good Taste

Spoons

The Third Annual Chili Supper, Spoons Championship & Dutch Blitz Side Game was a phenomenal success! No broken bones, not much blood, but lots of good, friendly competition! Who knew eating utensils could cause such a ruckus?!

More Birthday!

Tonight we celebrated 2 birthdays - Caroline's late and Kathleen's early! Molly made a cake for Caroline & Katherine made brownies for Kathleen.

The kids played outside in the trees and no one fell, broke anything, or had to go to the ER. Phew.

There was archery for all!

...and after some awesome chili came cake!

and brownies!

Molly was a reindeer.

Lizzie and Murphy bonded!

Caroline got an "I cannot live without books" tote bag.

By George!

One of the fun things about 8th grade history is that the kids get to reenact certain major events. This week it was the Constitutional Convention. Caroline got to be George Washington. The delegates sat and discussed various issues and voted. They all wrote speeches for each issue but didn't know when they would be called upon to speak. It was great fun to watch!

This is the only picture I have of Caroline in costume. My pics from the convention didn't turn out very well - I used the wrong camera!

Talent

Do you think she can get a scholarship for this?

Cub Scouts are Awesome

Tonight was the Boy Scout's annual Veteran's Day Spaghetti Dinner! The boys were encouraged to make a cake all by themselves for a contest. After the contest families could bid on the cakes to raise money for the pack. Will and David had a lot of together time making this cake. I thought it was only right that the scout dad be involved in monitoring of the cake baking!

He won a prize for "Most Colorful!" We also got to take it home because we won the bidding!

Then we got to eat it! Will served us all really big pieces!

The Wedding

Brian and Katie were married today at the chapel at UVA.

The girls put together the programs and Will got to hand them out!

The bride was beautiful. Her attendants were too! Their burnt orange dresses were perfect for this day.

We were treated to dinner afterwards at Bashir's on the downtown mall. Will ate about three baskets of rolls, and maybe a bite of rice! The rest of us really enjoyed our meal!
