Women of Faith
There were 10 of us traveling together to the conference and throughout DC from our hotel to the Verizon Center and beyond. Our day began with a quick bite and a hair-raising taxi ride to the Verizon Center to see Beth Moore. She was the pre-conference speaker for the conference. Even if they haven't participated in one of her bible studies, most Christian women have at least heard of her. I had done two studies years ago, read one of her books, and was looking forward to hearing her speak.
Beth Moore was amazing and worth every penny of the entire conference price! There were times that I thought she was every bit as amazed as we were. She'd get excited during her presentation and end up rushing off the stage and grabbing the hands of a conference goer! She'd kneel, intending to pray, get off on a tangent and get back up, only to get back on her knees again a few minutes later. She'd stop in mid-sentence, and thoughtfully look around at the audience, clearly awestruck by the large turn out! There were 11,000 women at the pre-conference, their biggest audience yet!
After the pre-conference we had a few hours to wander and eat prior to the conference beginning. Tara, Emily and I left the others and went to The Spy Museum during that time. We also ate a quiet meal at the Spy Cafe.
We headed back, found our seats, and sat spellbound of the rest of the evening. We heard from all of the conference regulars and Max Lucado!
Afterwards, we joined the throng of women descending into the bowels of the city to ride the submarine* back to the hotel. This was a first experience for some of the women and it was a hoot to watch as each of us deposited funds into the moneytaker machines and got our fare cards. We got back to the hotel exhausted and didn't even have the energy to play Scrabble!
*a.k.a the metro!!
