Mother-Daughter Communication

For any of you out there who don't want to know what I wear to bed, stop reading NOW or consider yourselves warned.

Really this isn't a post about my nighttime dressing habits as much as it is about how well some messages (or parts of them anyway!) have sunk into my oldest daughter's brain.

Morgan and I went shopping all by ourselves today. She is wearing a skinny-strapped sundress to school tomorrow and needed a strapless undergarment (because I have unreasonable visible bra-strap objections) as well as a sweater to go over the sundress.

In addition to her needs, I needed a nightgown. Now, I've never really cared much about what I sleep in - and have over the years defaulted to a t-shirt and shorts or long jammie bottoms. With the heat that we've been experiencing in the area as well as the additional heat created by the lack of air conditioning, I really wanted a cooler alternative. So Morgan and I dove into the large selection of nightwear at the local department store. Who knew there were so many options for nightclothes.

We wandered through and I explained what I was looking for.

me: Cotton.
her: OK.
me: Spaghetti straps.
her: You can't wear that! You have to wear a cami under it!
me: Morgan I'm wearing it in my bedroom.
her: It doesn't matter, you have to wear something under it. (handing me something navy blue and thick) Here try this one.
me: No way, I like this one.
her: You have to wear a cami under it. It's your rule.

Geez.
