Jackhammer Blues

Today reminds me quite a bit of the day after we brought Will home from the hospital.

On that Monday we were awakened by the roofers delivering the new roofing materials, and talking as loud as normal people do at midday. It wasn't midday mind you, it was closer to 6am. Then later, the roofers were joined by the pool guys who had come to build new stairs before installing a new liner. Needless to say the whole week was a busy one with lots of strange men here. The girls thought it was great and even set up a lemonade stand up at the top of the driveway. All of their business came from people working at our house! I, on the other hand, thought it was awful. There was a lot of noise, and we couldn't escape it. Will was still hooked up to his oxygen tank and I hadn't even begun to feel comfortable with that to switch him to the smaller, travelling tank.

This morning, as I sit here, I am listening to the sound of a jackhammer! Oh, yes! The pool guys have come and gone already after closing up the pool for the season. The plumber has come, turned off our water, and and gone to get more supplies. I'm holding out hope that he'll return before I have to cook dinner!

Back to the jackhammer. We (really it was all David!) had to move all items away from the the front wall of the house so the waterproofers can dig through the concrete to make a trough. Somehow the end result will be a really cool and effective method of moving the water to a sump pump, thereby not allowing it to dampen our floors. I'm not interested in how it works, just that it will work! Once they are finished inside they'll put in a french drain outside to keep the rainwater from pooling up in front of the house. This too seems like a pretty good idea since whenever we get a good rain we have a standing pool in our front walk.

I'm not sure how long I'll be able to stay here with all this racket.

The pictures show how the workers dug out under the wall and into the foundation from the inside.
