Run for the Hills!

I love watching Morgan run hills. She really knows how to move up and over them. They don't seem to faze her a bit!Today's meet was at home against Fluvanna & Goochland. Our friend Taylor runs for the Flucos!
Joseph & Jordan are our youth directors at church. They came out to cheer the girls before heading back into town for Wednesday night activities!

A Calculating Guinea Pig

After running some numbers, this little guinea piggie chewed up the dinosaur.

Sisterly Love

Katherine had a turn playing goalie today at field hockey practice.
Her sister got to shoot...

and got the ball past her - can you tell she was pumped!?

Nice.

Joey Pigza

This is Joey Pigza. This creation is the result of a book report assigned in Katherine's language arts class. He even has a a zipper on his pants and a med patch on his belly. The book was Joey Pigza Loses Control by Jack Gantos.

Katherine wasn't sure if she'd have to present her report so she practiced with her puppet. I don't think she ever had to present the report.

Just Ducky

After school we went for pancakes (and bacon!) and then went to Plato's Closet to see if we could find some jeans. Molly found her jeans, and all three girls came away with scarves! The current trend at their school is to wear ducks on a necklace. Why? Well, the ducks were prizes for turning in a booklet of names/addresses for the school magazine fundraising drive.

So, if you get one from us, and you need a magazine, feel free to order. Otherwise, just know that your name was useful in helping the girls accessorize!

Oh, and where is Katherine? She had a YLI retreat that kept her at school until late. Too bad. No scarf for K, but she does have a duck necklace!

Ball Girls

When I was a little girl I lived on a small court of 8 houses. In the house across the court from us was a family of 4 boys and a girl. At least two and maybe three of the boys had been or were currently bat boys for the Baltimore Orioles! I thought that was pretty cool - but there was never going to be a bat girl was there?

The kids are members of Cavman's Crew - usually this means they get a t-shirt and some free game passes. This year though, the Cavman people called to see if Caroline would be ball girl for some of the field hockey games. She and Katherine were ball girls today - UVA remained undefeated and Michigan State had a long ride home.

This ball girl lost her tooth mid second half! I'm surprised that she didn't really lose it!!!

The Wedding

Wedding prep meant we all got to the church on Friday evening to prepare veggies & fruit and to decide how the table would be set. It also meant I got to church early on Saturday morning to start the crock pots so the meatballs and wieners would be hot! Then we all came back together in the early afternoon to finish setting up and to start the jello punch. There were others too who spent entire days preparing homemade mints in the bride's colors, and crab-stuffed mushrooms, and deviled eggs & much longed-for crab dip.

After the wedding came the reception... there was plenty of food and punch and even cheesecake petitfours for the guests.

The bride has been the Youth II (high school) Bible Study teacher for the last several years. The girls will miss her.

Field Hockey Time!

Caroline & Katherine are playing field hockey this year. Once again we are playing with the City team because there weren't enough girls from our school or City to let us have our own teams. That's not all bad though, since it means we have the same great coach this year!

First practice for Katherine and already she's lost her stick! Not really - someone else had borrowed it and had left it in the grass. First game in just 10 days!

Sick Boy - Day 3

Every Wednesday the organic doughnut man comes to the parking lot just outside my office. I'm charged with letting the doughnut boys know he's there. The doughnuts are really good, especially when they are warm.
The boy made origami things to share and played with his Lego's. We were also blessed with a slide show of HP's trip to Africa! Wonderful pictures!

Retreat Bound

She looks ready to go doesn't she?! She and 37 other sixth graders are spending the night at a local camp for a bit of fun and day away from school! They'll spend the day there tomorrow and come home tired! And maybe wet - it's supposed to rain tomorrow.

Cranes, Planes, Swans & Stars

This library book started it all. Will brought this book home from school last week and decided he should make some cranes like the girl in the story. So we looked up instructions online and he started making cranes. It turns out the cranes are pretty difficult so he took a break from cranes and started making planes.

After a couple of days of feeling unwell, the boy was ready to try again - this time he found a booklet that showed him how to make swans and stars! With each one he makes his folds get better!
